All cards on the table this evening filled with drama, passion and late summer heat! With two Berlioz performances, this will be the perfect warm-up for the season finale's big Berlioz bonanza in May. We begin with his powerful King Lear overture, before soprano Johanna Wallroth – at Maxime's request – interprets the love-filled lyrics of Les nuits d'été (“Summer Nights”) by Théophile Gautier.Stravinsky, born in Russia, was a true cosmopolitan. He died an American citizen and is buried in Venice. From 1920 until the beginning of World War II, Stravinsky lived in France, first with Coco Chanel, where he also received French citizenship. His ballet Jeu de cartes depicts a thrilling poker game where the joker rules the game. Here it is important to play your cards right, and Maxime Pascal does so as usual with trump in hand.
