Freitag aus Licht is an opera about temptation: the temptation to use the body as a musical instrument, the temptation to transform one sound into another. Karlheinz Stockhausen is particularly interested in the movement of sound through space, in creating ‘mobile soundscapes’.
Freitag consists of three musical dimensions: the first, Weltraum, is an electronic composition created by Karlheinz Stockhausen in his studios. The second is structured around twelve ballet scenes featuring twelve pairs of dancers dressed as everyday objects. The third comprises the dramatic action linking the protagonists of the libretto and their respective children.Le BalconOrchestre d’enfants du Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de LilleChœur de la Maîtrise Notre-Dame de ParisMusical direction Maxime PascalStage direction and set design Silvia CostaCostumes Bianca DeignerLighting design Bernd PurkrabekSound design Florent DerexMusic technology Augustin Muller and Étienne DémoulinChildren’s choir director Émilie FleuryVocal coach Alain Muller
